As part of an eco-innovative project, our team developed a natural mosquito repellent formulated using cow dung and locally available herbal ingredients. The formulation was designed to provide an effective, chemical-free alternative to synthetic mosquito repellents while being environmentally safe and sustainable. The mosquito repellent was prepared by blending cow dung with herbal ingredients such as rose petals, neem leaves, benzoin resin, and Boswellia serrata gum. Rose petals and neem leaves were dried and powdered. Benzoin resin and Boswellia serrata gum were ground and sieved to obtain a fine consistency. All ingredients were accurately weighed, mixed thoroughly, and then pressed into the desired shape (coil or stick form). The prepared repellents were evaluated for burning time, smoke visibility, odor, irritation potential, ash weight, and mosquito repellent activity. The analysis results demonstrated that the herbal mosquito repellent was effective in repelling mosquitoes upon burning. The formulation produced pleasantly mild smoke, had no irritation, and maintained a satisfactory burning time. The study concluded that cow dung-based mosquito repellents prepared with herbal ingredients are safe, eco-friendly, and effective. This natural approach provides a sustainable alternative to conventional, chemical-based mosquito repellents, thereby reducing environmental and health hazards.
🌿 This project showcases the creative integration of traditional knowledge and modern scientific principles in developing safe, herbal, and sustainable household products.
