As part of an innovative research initiative, me and students developed an herbal face serum – “Ashwa-C”, formulated using Ashwagandha and Orange Peel extracts, aiming to promote healthy, radiant, and rejuvenated skin through natural ingredients. The primary objective of this project was to prepare and evaluate a natural, chemical-free face serum that enhances skin texture and appearance while maintaining safety and stability. The formulation of Ashwa-C involved combining Ashwagandha extract, known for its anti-aging and skin-rejuvenating properties, with Orange Peel extract, a natural source of antioxidants and citric acid that helps brighten the skin. The extracts were blended using a magnetic stirrer, followed by the addition of rose water and glycerin to provide hydration and smooth consistency. The final product was then stored in suitable containers for further testing. The Ashwa-C Herbal Face Serum underwent both physicochemical and biological evaluations, including:
- Antimicrobial studies to ensure product safety.
- In vitro antioxidant assays to confirm free-radical scavenging potential.
- Stability studies to verify consistency and shelf life.
Results revealed that the formulation was stable, free from microbial contamination, and showed promising antioxidant activity — confirming its potential as a safe and effective skincare formulation.
The project concluded that Ashwa-C Herbal Face Serum is a natural, safe, and effective formulation for improving skin health and appearance. Further in-vitro and in-vivo studies will help in exploring its mechanism of action and future commercialisation possibilities.
This project reflects the commitment of our pharmacy students toward developing safe, science-backed, and sustainable skincare solutions using the power of herbal ingredients.
